Case Study: From Uncertainty to a £50K Role Outside Teaching
Introduction
This client came to me after nearly three decades in teaching, knowing that she no longer wanted to remain in the profession but feeling completely unsure about what to do next.
She had a clear financial requirement of around £50,000, which added pressure to her decision-making, as she felt limited in the options available to her outside of education.
Assessment
The main challenge wasn’t a lack of experience, but a lack of clarity. She had spent many years in one profession and found it difficult to identify what roles would both suit her and meet her financial needs.
There was also an underlying concern about whether her skills would transfer effectively into a new sector, particularly at the salary level she was aiming for.
Execution
We worked together to build clarity from the ground up. This involved exploring her core values, identifying the aspects of her role that energised her, and recognising the elements that had become draining over time.
By mapping out what her ideal working environment looked like, we were able to create a clear direction before moving into job searching. From there, we focused on positioning her experience in a way that aligned with roles outside of teaching, refining both her CV and applications to reflect her transferable skills and leadership experience.
This targeted approach allowed her to focus only on roles that met both her professional and financial criteria.
Outcome
She successfully secured a role as an educational coordinator within a charity setting. The position allowed her to move out of the classroom while still utilising her experience in education, but in a more flexible and manageable environment.
Importantly, the role met her salary expectations, demonstrating that it was possible to transition out of teaching without taking a financial step back.
Update
She has since settled into her new role and is enjoying the change in environment and pace of work. The transition has given her a renewed sense of direction and confidence in her career decisions.
She now has clarity not only on what she wants from her work, but also on how her experience can translate into meaningful opportunities outside of teaching.
